Spring officially arrived on Wednesday. Here in Atlanta, we have had no rain this week, sunny skies and flowers are in bloom. It is the breath of spring. I have enjoyed seeing the cherry trees in full bloom this week. Our neighborhood has quite a few of them. They make me smile. I have watched finches return to our feeder and as I sit writing this blog post I am listening to a very happy bird sing.
Spring is all about new life. It calls of color and texture, not only in nature but our homes are calling for new life as well.
Paint Your Front Door
There is nothing more lovely than a front door that is painted a fun color. It beckons you to come into the house. Spring is the perfect time to paint your front door a fresh new color. Take your cues from nature. Yellow front doors are inspired by the sun. They are cheerful and welcome you home. Green or teal front doors take their cues from new green leaves. Paint your front door red and it will remind you of tulips or bleeding hearts that are beginning to pop out of the ground. Be bold and daring, revive your front door with a new color.
Colorful Throw Pillows
Walk into any store and you will find colorful throw pillows everywhere. Throw pillows are a great way to add a splash of color and bring spring into your home. They come in all colors and textures. Most are quite affordable and can freshen up a room in a very simple way. You can add them to a sofa or chair. Maybe think about adding them to banquette seating or a window seat. And don’t forget the patio or deck. Pillows for outside are made with fabric that will endure the weather. I enjoy new outdoor pillows each year on our patio. I think a trip to HomeGoods is in my near future.
Bring Nature Inside
I know you have heard this many times before but truly one of the easiest ways to add color and breathe spring into your home is to bring nature inside. You can certainly do this throughout the year, however, spring and summer bring you a bounty of color to choose from. I love nothing more than adding tulips, daffodils or even forsythia branches inside and put them on our kitchen table. Add them to a dining room table with votive candles if you are having friends over for dinner. Or even add flowers to a bedside table or your bathroom counter. Flowers invoke happiness and relieve stress.
Spring inspires new life, color and new beginnings. I hope that you will breathe the breath of spring this year. Take advantage of all the color around you to find inspiration. Whether you paint your front door, add new pillows to a room or add the freshness of flowers to your home I hope you will enjoy this new season. As for me, I think I will go dig in the dirt and add some new flowers to our garden.
Until next time,
