Spring Into Color

As many of you know, I am drawn to color. Living in Atlanta is a wonderful place to be in the spring. I love all the “living” color that you will find as trees bud and flowers bloom. It is my favorite time year. I long to one day have a “Southern Living” garden; a yard with beautiful green grass and beds with flowers of all seasons-I’m working on it.  In the meantime, I enjoy helping clients bring color into their homes. I have had the pleasure of working with clients that are not afraid to put color on the walls of their house. It is such fun to find ways to balance color with furniture and items in a room while not appearing overwhelming.

Color on Walls

You should not be afraid of adding color to your walls. If this seems overwhelming to you maybe you could try an accent wall. I worked with a client a while back who asked for a Color Consultation for her basement. They were redoing it and she needed some guidance as to color choices. She was a pleasure to work with. She recently invited me back to see the finished product.

The above pictures are of her finished basement. She wanted a beach theme so we chose colors that would be appropriate for each space. They have a media area, a bathroom, a game area and a craft area. Each space contains oranges, greens and blues of varying shades. They are tied together with accent pieces. When painting the walls of your home you do not always need to use bright, bold colors. There are many beautiful subtle colors that work well with many types of décor. Beautiful shades of green, blue or gold will brighten any room. Determine the effect you are trying to create then choose your color(s).

Color in Accessories

If painting your walls seems a little daunting, try adding color through accessories. Things such as lamps, pillows or art are a great way to bring color into a room. I love the colors in the bench below. It is just inviting you to have a seat and relax for a few minutes. The planter and green plant also add a splash of color.

Color in Window Treatments

Window treatments are a wonderful way to add color to your home. There are so many beautiful fabrics to choose from. You will find fabrics in all colors and patterns. This is a great way to add texture to a room as well. Whether you want draperies or some type of valence, window treatments are a great way to add a pop of color to a room.

These draperies add color to a neutral wall.
