The week of October 17-22 was filled with excitement in High Point, NC. Well known for its fall and spring market weeks, the small town with the big furniture presence was filled with designers, artists, furniture makers and the media. The much anticipated furniture collections were debuted here. Though I have never been to one of High Point’s market weeks it is certainly on my “To Do” list.
After reading a lot about the new furniture lines that were presented, there were two that really got me excited. First, Joanna Gaines of Magnolia Home debuted her first furniture line. I have always enjoyed “Fixer Upper” with Chip and Joanna Gaines. Together they give each family that they work with the home of their dreams. Well, now Joanna has partnered with Standard Furniture to produce practical, functional, fun furniture. She stated in an interview that she wanted this furniture to be “livable, comfortable and tell a story.” I believe that is what most people want and it is my job as a designer to accomplish this for my client.
The next new furniture line that really excites me is by Cynthia Rowley. She has partnered with Hooker Furniture to debut her collection. Cynthia Rowley has been a fashion designer known for her bright prints and flirty style. This carries over into her furniture. She states, “I want to create furniture that will brighten your space and make your home a happy place.” So if you are looking for fun pops of color to add excitement to your home check out her furniture line.
I always find it interesting to see what new things come out of High Point Market Week. It is the place that sets the trend in furniture lines. If you ever get the chance to go to High Point please take time to check out the market. There are many showrooms and they are open to the public. Who knows what great “treasure” you will find there.
