Pantone's 2017 Colour of the Year

Pantone’s 2017  Color of the Year

Happy 2017! It is hard to believe that we are starting another year. With that, comes a new “Color of the Year’” chosen by the Pantone Color Institute. Each year the Pantone Color Institute tries to distill the prevailing mood into a single color. This year that color is Greenery.

Not Your Typical Green

Greenery is not your typical green. It is a yellow-green shade that evokes the first day of spring, according to Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. It is both a cool and a warm color. It is a color of hopefulness and connects us to nature. It leads us to think of words such as regenerate, refresh and renew. This is a color that will be seen in many fabrics, wall paper and home décor items. It will not be seen so much as a wall color.

The great thing about Greenery is that it can be paired with neutrals, brights, deeper shades, pastels or metallic. It is quite versatile.

These are just several examples of ways Greenery can be paired with other colors to add a refreshing look to any home.

Another Color of the Year

As with most things, everyone wants to set a trend. It is no different in the world of design. Paint companies such as Sherwin Williams follow suit and choose a Color of the Year as well. This year they have chosen, Poised Taupe. It is a combination of warm brown and gray. It reminds us of earthen tones and things that are weathered. This color will be seen on walls and can be combined with a variety of colors as well. It is a wonderful color to warm any home.

What Will Be Your Color of the Year?

As we begin a new year, and you are pondering changes in your home, what will be your Color of the Year? Will you choose to go with a trend? Will you choose a color that reminds you of something in the past, a color you have always been drawn to, or a color from nature? No matter what color you choose, choose it with confidence and find ways to weave it throughout your home.

Until next time, happy decorating!
